Petrol will cost Rs377.91 per litre in Pakistan from Thursday, 29 October 2026, after the government raised the price by Rs1.85 per litre, while high-speed diesel goes up by Rs1.75 to Rs399.82 per litre.

The new rates were announced late on Wednesday by the Petroleum Division, Business Recorder reported. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised the ex-depot prices under the federal government's pricing system, and the rates take effect for Thursday, 29 October.

Main News Report

Petrol moves from Rs376.06 to Rs377.91 per litre, a rise of Rs1.85. Diesel moves from Rs398.07 to Rs399.82 per litre, a rise of Rs1.75. Diesel now sits just 18 paisa below Rs400 per litre.

The Petroleum Division said the change was needed because of global developments, including changes in Platts rates, premiums and other incidental costs. Geo News reported that Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said the daily prices are based on a seven-day average of international market prices, in line with international practice.

World oil prices rose on Wednesday as fighting in Yemen and an attack on a refinery in Saudi Arabia raised fears of further supply disruption in the Middle East. Brent crude rose $1.81, or 1.6 percent, to $115.69 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate rose $2.52, or 2.5 percent, to $102.42.

Background Context

This is the latest turn in a month of fast-moving fuel prices. Petrol stood at Rs379.25 per litre on 27 October, then fell by Rs3.19 to Rs376.06 on 28 October. Thursday's rise of Rs1.85 takes back part of that cut, but petrol is still Rs1.34 below where it stood on 27 October.

Diesel has moved the other way for several revisions in a row. It rose by Rs2.25 to Rs398.07 on 28 October, and Thursday's further rise of Rs1.75 takes it to Rs399.82. From Rs389.27 on 20 October, diesel has climbed by Rs10.55 in nine days.

The key figures at a glance:

  • Petrol: Rs376.06 to Rs377.91 per litre, up Rs1.85
  • High-speed diesel: Rs398.07 to Rs399.82 per litre, up Rs1.75
  • Diesel is 18 paisa below Rs400 per litre
  • Brent crude: $115.69 a barrel on Wednesday, up 1.6 percent
  • Effective date: Thursday, 29 October 2026

Reactions and Statements

The government has pointed to the world market, not local taxes, as the reason for this revision. OGRA said the change follows global developments, and the minister stressed the seven-day average used for the daily price.

Under the daily price system, OGRA now issues ex-depot prices for petrol and diesel each day, without needing prior approval from the prime minister or the federal government. Prices notified on Fridays stay unchanged on Saturdays and Sundays. The system replaced fortnightly revisions, and then a weekly system brought in after the Middle East conflict began on 28 February, when Israel and the United States attacked Iran.

No change to the petroleum levy was announced with this revision.

Why This News Matters

Put simply, filling up costs more from Thursday morning. A motorbike rider who buys 10 litres of petrol will pay Rs18.50 more than on Wednesday. A car driver filling a 40-litre tank will pay Rs74 more.

Diesel matters even for people who never buy it at a pump. Trucks, buses and farm machinery run on diesel, so a diesel price near Rs400 feeds into transport fares and the cost of moving food and goods. That is why a diesel rise tends to show up in shop prices in the days that follow.

For households, the daily system also means prices can move in either direction at short notice. A fall one day, like the Rs3.19 petrol cut on 28 October, can be partly reversed the next day, as it has been now.

Future Developments

The next daily revision is due on Friday, and that price will then hold over the weekend. Watch the world oil price first: if Brent stays above $115 a barrel, further rises are more likely than a cut.

Watch diesel in particular. At Rs399.82, one more rise of 18 paisa or more would take it past Rs400 per litre for the first time in this run of revisions, a mark that will draw wide attention.

OGRA now publishes daily petroleum prices on its website, so drivers can check the next rate before they fill up.
