The Pakistan Stock Exchange extended its recovery on Tuesday as easing international crude oil prices and broad-based buying across key sectors lifted investor sentiment, with the benchmark KSE-100 index gaining 1,429 points to close at 164,467.
The rally came despite the State Bank of Pakistan's recent 50 basis point policy rate hike, which took the rate to 12 percent, and it built on the market's recent run of gains.

Business Recorder reported that the benchmark KSE-100 index closed at 164,467.20 points against 163,038.47 points in the previous session, gaining 1,428.73 points or 0.88 percent. During trading, the index touched an intraday high of 164,787.67 points and a low of 163,545.70 points.

MCB, FFC, UBL, PPL and NBP were the major contributors to the benchmark's advance, collectively adding about 490 points.

Background Context
The rally is notable because it came right after a rate hike that would normally weigh on stocks. The State Bank raised its policy rate to 12 percent in its first hike since April, citing inflation pressures. Analysts said relief that the increase was lower than feared, plus ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease US-Iran tensions, helped keep buyers in the market.
Easing crude prices also mattered. Oil is one of Pakistan's biggest import bills, so lower prices ease pressure on the rupee, on inflation and on the country's import costs, and that feeds straight into stock sentiment.
The gains also sit alongside other price moves Pakistanis are watching closely this week, from petrol prices, which fell to Rs376.06 a litre on 28 October, to gold, which rose to Rs423,436 per tola on 27 October.
Reactions and Statements
Analysts expect the market to maintain a positive bias, Business Recorder reported, citing relief over the rate increase being lower than feared and the diplomatic efforts around US-Iran tensions. They cautioned, however, that geopolitical uncertainty, international oil prices and evolving macroeconomic conditions could continue to influence sentiment, leaving room for volatility and selective buying.
K-Electric led ready-market turnover with 54.027 million shares, closing at Rs5.80 against Rs5.65 previously. Cnergyico PK followed with 30.699 million shares, settling at Rs12.72 against Rs12.30. WorldCall Telecom recorded turnover of 24.034 million shares, finishing at Rs0.96 against Rs0.88.
Why This News Matters
For ordinary Pakistanis, the stock market is not just numbers on a screen. Pension funds, mutual funds and company savings all ride on it, and a rising market signals that investors see calmer waters ahead for the economy, for jobs and for business.
The breadth of the rally matters too. With 282 companies advancing against 170 declining, this was not a one-stock story. Cement, cars, banks and power all moved up together, which points to broad confidence rather than a narrow bet.
The caution from analysts matters just as much. The same oil prices that helped Tuesday's rally can turn fast, and the region's tensions have not gone away. A market that rises on relief can fall just as quickly on a bad headline.
Future Developments
Watch for three things. First, whether the index holds above 164,000 in the next sessions or gives back Tuesday's gains. Second, the next round of company earnings, which drove much of the buying in cement, cars and banks. Third, oil prices and the US-Iran diplomatic track, both of which analysts named as the key swings for sentiment.
If the rally holds, it will mark a steady recovery leg for the PSX after the rate-hike shock. If it fades, Tuesday will stand as a relief bounce inside a still uncertain market.
