Petrol is cheaper again from today, Thursday 5 November, down Rs7.06 a litre to Rs362, while high speed diesel is down Rs3.71 to Rs387.81. The new rates apply for today only, because the government has now moved to daily fuel price reviews, so drivers should expect the price to move again tomorrow.

Geo News reports that the federal government issued the new notification on Wednesday, and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) said the revised prices are effective for 5 November only. OGRA has also started publishing daily petroleum prices on its website, so changes in world oil prices reach drivers faster.

The new prices, set out plainly, are:

  • Petrol: Rs369.06 down to Rs362.00 a litre, a cut of Rs7.06
  • High speed diesel: Rs391.52 down to Rs387.81 a litre, a cut of Rs3.71

Put the week's cuts together and the drop is clear. On Monday morning petrol cost Rs377.91 a litre and diesel Rs402.96. After yesterday's cut, and now today's, petrol is Rs15.91 a litre cheaper and diesel Rs15.15 a litre cheaper than it was then. For a driver filling a 40 litre petrol tank, that is Rs282 less than yesterday and Rs636 less than on Monday morning.

The switch to daily reviews is about world prices moving fast. The government had moved to weekly reviews after the conflict in the Middle East began on 28 February, when Israel and the United States attacked Iran, and fortnightly reviews were the rule before that. With Brent crude falling, as covered in our report on Brent slipping below 100 dollars, the cabinet approved a new pricing setup on 30 October. Under it, refineries hand over the gap between import prices and ex-refinery prices as a petroleum levy, and that benefit is passed on to buyers at the pump. The government has also fixed the refinery premium and duty figures at their 7 March 2026 levels for 30 days.

What this means in plain terms: fill up today if you can, because today's rate is good, but do not assume it holds. Under daily pricing, tomorrow brings a fresh rate, and if world prices jump, the pump price will follow just as quickly. The diesel cut should also ease pressure on transport costs, which feed into the prices of goods moved by road. Households are already juggling fuel costs with winter gas timings that allow only eight hours of piped gas a day, so every rupee off the pump helps.

Watch for tomorrow's daily review, which will set the pump price for Friday.
