NAB Summons KP Minister Dr Amjad Ali, Four Others in Assets Inquiry Today
PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has summoned provincial lawmaker Dr Amjad Ali to appear before it on Tuesday in an inquiry into alleged assets beyond known sources of income and suspected corruption, Geo News reported.
Main News Report
- The summons: Dr Amjad Ali, a member of the provincial assembly and special assistant to the chief minister on housing, has been directed to appear at NAB's Hayatabad office in Peshawar today (Tuesday, 20 October), according to Geo News.
- Five notices: NAB issued five notices on 16 October under Section 19 of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999, in an inquiry initiated after a complaint was received, The News reported.
- Four others summoned: Besides Ali, four people — Bacha Syed, Muhammad Arif Shah, Siraj Ahmad and Naveed Ahmad — have been summoned as witnesses and directed to appear before the bureau between 20 and 22 October.
- Records sought: The bureau has sought property records from various housing societies, including details of allotments, ownership and payments, and asked the Accountant General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Ali's salary, allowances, benefits and travel expenses.
- The warning: NAB warned in its summons that failure to comply with the notices could lead to legal action.
Background Context
The inquiry follows earlier court proceedings involving Ali. In March 2026, the Peshawar High Court directed NAB not to harass him in connection with an assets case and disposed of his writ petition, The News reported.
Separately, 24NewsHD reported on Tuesday that NAB has initiated inquiries against other senior PTI leaders as well. Murad Saeed faces an inquiry over alleged benami properties, front men and business investments, including a land purchase in Swat in 2020, with a notice issued to him on 19 October. Former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur received a call-up notice on 22 September to submit records of his assets and financial matters, while Azam Swati was issued a notice in an alleged embezzlement case involving over Rs30 billion in Upper Kohistan.
Reactions and Statements
There was no immediate public response from Dr Amjad Ali or the PTI leadership to the summons at the time of publication.
The bureau said the inquiry was initiated after a complaint was received, and stressed through its summons that compliance with the notices is mandatory, Geo News reported.
Why This News Matters
- KP's governing PTI under pressure: The summons lands while the province's PTI-led government is already facing a federal emergency and governor's rule — now its housing minister faces an accountability probe.
- Widening net: With 24NewsHD reporting fresh NAB inquiries against Saeed, Gandapur and Swati, the accountability drive against PTI figures is clearly expanding.
- Test for NAB's credibility: The March 2026 Peshawar High Court order against harassing Ali means the bureau's handling of this inquiry will be closely watched by the judiciary too.
Future Developments
Watch for whether Dr Amjad Ali appears before NAB in Peshawar today, what statements the four witnesses give between 20 and 22 October, and whether the bureau issues further notices in the parallel inquiries against Murad Saeed, Ali Amin Gandapur and Azam Swati. The PTI's official response, if any, will indicate how the party plans to counter the widening accountability drive.
